The workflow for adding books to our libraries is not great, especially for people not reading in English, since we barely ever read the default edition. I was already aware of that by myself, but then I got my partner into Hardcover and watched them struggle to add books that we had in the house. It really made me realize how unoptimized this user flow is.
Here is how they were doing it:

• pick up a book
• scan the barcode
• click on the book page
• this shows the English title and cover from the "cover edition" – not the translation they just scanned! Which is confusing.
• they click "Read"
• the default edition gets added to their library
• they now have to go and edit the Read with the correct edition, while having just scanned that exact edition! This is silly! Needless to say they were unimpressed with the app.

We do have the "jump to this edition" button when scanning. But EVEN IF you do that and land on the specific edition, then click "Read" - it STILL adds the default edition! This is even sillier!

I guess this is more of a general suggestion for improving edition management when adding books to library, or frankly in general. But I think what I concretely want to suggest right now is:

1. When adding a book to our library while viewing an edition, add this edition automatically, not the default one. (Btw thank you so much to the dev who added this notice “A previous read uses a different edition” with the button. Saves me a bunch of clicks already. But auto-selecting the one we are viewing would be even better!)
2. When adding a book to our library from the search results with a specific ISBN, add that specific edition, not the default one.
3. Edition pages should not just be a filter to the edition list. I think it should present like the Book Info tab, but with the title and cover replaced with this edition’s specifics. To make it clear we are viewing a specific edition, there could be a card that indicates it just over the synopsis. Something like “Viewing edition: Language, 2026, Publisher Name, ISBN [See other editions]”
