What's next in a series

A while ago I built seriestrackr.com to help me keep track of what series I was interested in or in the middle of. It's pretty tied to goodreads, and their API is rotting.

I would love to be able to see a view of all my series, based on books I've read or want to read. This would let me easily figure out what to read next.

Hello! We previously had a basic version of this feature, but had to disable it after a code migration last year - I'm now looking at bringing it back, but also with a couple of improvements. At this stage I'm planning a page where you can:

  • See all series that are in-progress (i.e. ones where you've read at least one book in a series)
  • A way to "follow" or favourite certain series - so that you can have a dedicated view of the series you actually care about (rather than seeing all of them)
  • Support for compilations - e.g. if you've read one book that spans two books in a series, we accurately count that
  • Sort your series by upcoming releases

I don't have a strong ETA on this on yet, as I am also working on some updates to our Dashboard feature which take priority (this one is sort of like a fun side project!) But if you have any other "must-haves" or ideas for this feature please let me know!

Emma A good test case for this would be The Cosmere. It's made up of smaller series, standalones, novellas, and short stories. There is also Arcanum Unbounded which compiles some of the novellas and short stories into one book, so that would be a good test case for the compilation support.

One of the pain points for me as I'm currently reading through the The Cosmere (but I assume this happens for a bunch of other series too) is that short stories and novellas are best read at certain points. So I'm reading them in Arcanum Unbounded as I go but I have to manually check off the short stories/novellas as read on their own entries and then just not give the "read" a date so it doesn't show up in my read stats for this year. I'm then going to mark Arcanum Unbounded as read with proper dates at the end once I finish everything in it. It would be nice if books/short stories/novellas could be linked to compilations so you can say "I read this as part of this compilation", so that both get marked as read.

Emma I have several series I dont plan to pursue, a ‘hide series in views’ button would be great.

This would be very helpful, combined with one of the other feature requests of release notifications (https://roadmap.hardcover.app/feature-requests/posts/book-release-notification) would make this a powerful one two punch for the app.

This would make Hardcover the perfect app for me! I read so many series' and never know when new books in the series come out (sometimes it can take so long)

Alternately I can try and add hardcover as a data source for seriestrackr, but in that case I'd really love the graphql API to include whether a book is a primary work in a series.

The functionality of seriestrackr.com is what I was looking for when trying Hardcover (and other goodreads alternatives). So with this functionally added this will be my "new" goodreads :)
