Option to merge editions in owned
Nov 17, 2025
Owning multiple editions of a book (ebook, physical, etc.) currently causes a book to be shown multiple times in the owned library view.
It would be nice to have those merged into a single item and then have a section on the book page to show which editions you own of a given book. Or at least a toggle to hide duplicates in your owned.

You should be able to see which editions you own on the book's editions tab I believe. Maybe a filter or checkbox at the top to only show you the one(s) you own would be helpful?
JJ This is for after you select editions you own, multiple show up in your "owned" and it's difficult/impossible to differentiate between editions if they have the same or similar covers. (ebook and hardcover for example) There is nothing to indicate which of those two "The Dark Forest" books in my screenshot is the ebook vs the hardcover version for example. They also both link to the book page instead of the specific edition. Collapsing them into a single entry with something to indicate you have multiple editions would best best IMO. Or at least a setting to choose which way you want it to be handled.
Mike I think you'd have to make it a setting you can opt in or out of, because I'm sure there are also people who want them to show separately and be counted separately since they are different copies (especially those who are anal about it showing an accurate count of the books in their library). The list used to link you to the specific edition instead of the book page. They changed it because it was doing that everywhere, including the friend activity feed. If they could only change it for the owned list, that would be ideal. Maybe they could add the little icon somewhere on each list entry for the book type (physical, ebook, audiobook).
JJ Oh yes certainly it should be a setting so you can choose which behavior you want. I also think it should always count all the editions even if they're collapsed into one "display" item in your owned list.
Here is a super quick example mockup of what I had in mind when I created this feature request. First one is the "non collapsed" version and it just shows edition type. And then the other two screenshots are the collapsed version with an expanded view.
