like storygraph where I can set a challenge for a custom time period, assign a specific book that meets the criteria for custom prompts and automatically marks it completed when I read that book within the time frame set

This is an interesting idea! I have a few thoughts on this and I'm curious to get your take on if this path would accomplish the same thing.

We're thinking about making two changes to Goals:

Advanced Goals: Allow for setting filtering options for what kind of books make up the goal. This would likely allow for only a specific subset of metrics including:

• Reading format - Read vs listened
• Page count - Only books in a page count range
• Book type - Book, short story, comic
• Language, Genres, Moods - Only include books that meet any of these conditions.
• Author demographics - In the future we'd love to have this (gender, sexuality, country)

With that setup you wouldn't manually add books, but they'd be automatically added if they met any of these criteria set for the goal.

List Goals: Another idea is to relate a Goal to a List. You could create a list with any number of books on it, then create a goal based on reading books from the list. You could set the Goal to be equal to the List count, or have it be lower. When you read any book on that list your goal would update.

It sounds like your idea would more closely match up with List Goals, but I'm curious which of these you'd like to use more?

Adam Fortuna since I am primarily thinking of this for tracking my r/fantasy bingo each year, I think I would be a list goal girlie! But your other idea is also very cool and I think it's useful as well. The prompts for booktube readathons and other online reading prompts are often a mix of qualitative criteria and more quantative so list goals would be most flexible it seems like

Gemma could a list goal have "prompts" and be shared for individual users to assign their own books to each prompt? That would be so good for readathons etc
