Reading goals v1 is a simple pages/books in a date range.

Expand on this with the ability to limit books by a list, a genre, a reading format (read, listen), a book format (book, short story, graphic novel) and by author details (gender, ethnicity, sexuality).

I think it would be helpful to be able to manually connect a book to a goal. For example, if I want to read 5 leadership books for work this year, I only want certain books to count toward it (not just any non-fiction book).

I appreciate the idea of a simple "read X books this year", but I would also like to be able to also manually attribute a book to a goal.

Just chiming in with another person who would love to see this. I'm really not a numbers kind of person so I don't care about how many books I read this month/year/etc. But I do like to specify things like "new to me authors" or "books I've wanted to read for years but never got around to."

Being able to specify a List in the reading goal and either pre add the books I want to count to that list or adding them as I go would be nice.

I will note that these examples are different functions. The second is a simple X out of Y total books read. But in the case where you add them to the list as they are read, that's always going to be 100%. Maybe an option to specify so that it would say something along the line of "Read X new to her authors this year". So ignoring a comparison to a total goal amount.

I'd love to be able to set a goal based on each book's page count, like 10 books over 1k words! Or based on book type, like read 10 paper books (as opposed to ebooks or audio)

A thing I didn't see mentioned as a possible filtering option: fiction/non-fiction. Has this been under consideration?

Though I guess implementing "manual update" and/or list-specific goals could offer a more flexible way to do this, as fiction and non-fiction are pretty broad categories.

Could we add a 'manual update vs. automatic count' option to cover more advanced/specific goals? For example, I want to read 5 new to me genres next year, or writers from 10 different countries - these goals are too specific to track automatically, but if there was a manual update option, I could add and check off books that I think count myself.

Edit to add: internisus' suggestion below would be cool as well as allow a hacky way to do my request. i.e. Attach a goal to a list, then add the books I think count to my goal to the list as I read them.

Being able to set reading goals within specific lists would be a very practical addition. For clarity, what I have in mind is lists being implemented as another advanced line option with a drop-down allowing the user to select from their existing lists, and of course only reading books from that list would progress that goal.

I miss being able to specify which books are part of my reading goal list. An option in the book's menu that would easily add a certain book to the reading goal. Just like Skoob's Reading Goal:

Would it be possible to add a setting for "unique books"? Like, a book can only count towards each goal once? my kid loves to read the same books with us over and over again, and if I log them it kinda feels like padding the goal tracker
