Ability to add individual notes to books within a List

Jul 17, 2026
I’m currently trying to build a curated list for a specific literary award, but I noticed there's no option to add individual notes or comments to books once they are added to a list.
For list curation, having a small notes/comment field for each book would be incredibly helpful. For example, it would allow users to specify why a book is in that list, or note specific details like "Winner (year)" or "Nominee (year)".
This would make custom lists much more informative and useful for the community.

This would be so usefull!! So many times I add books to the "want to read" list but then I forgot why I want to read them.
I would personally like it if, when this presentation is set up, there was also a checkbox to display the reviews instead. I've effectively been using reviews for a similar purpose with the main list I keep and would love a way to include them as part of the list presentation (even if it's a mouse over type thing).
JDM_books I see what you mean! Having an option to auto-pull and display your existing review would definitely save time. Ideally, the platform could offer both: a text box for custom list-specific notes, and a toggle/checkbox to pull the review instead. That way, it covers both use cases!
Letterboxd has this feature. Example:

Click on "Read Notes"
NerdCat Yes, the Letterboxd approach is almost exactly what I had in mind! It’s so clean and makes browsing curated lists a much better experience. Thanks for sharing the example!
