You definitely don't need your own entire database in order to implement Matchscore. Could do a hybrid approach between APIs/data from OpenLibrary.
Also it's kinda crazy how much excess data you have, while not having other data. Hope you can get this resolved, or refactor, since you'll likely need to do something for faster updates, searching, etc. Doesn't look too scalable as of now.

We're focusing on updating our database! Aiming to have covers and data for most books that we're missing by the end of July.

Aiming to spend some time in July 2022 working through this. Definitely hit on a number of missing books when using Hardcover as well.

Actively working on this.
We've made good progress on this the past month, and it should get better and better.
If you want to add a book you can do that here:
https://hardcover.app/books/new
Side note: we're relying on our own book database, unlike many of our competitors who get it from the Google Books API or Goodreads API. A huge advantage of this is that we're able to show you an accurate Matchscore for book recommendations. This is because we have our own data.

Ste (HC Design) I hope you'll reconsider this approach. It inherently narrows the field to popular books in English (which I don't read, meaning I won't really have use for this platform).
